Japan Working Group

We focus on knowledge sharing among our investors, providing a forum for deep dives and connecting with experts on Japanese markets.

The group is mostly facilitated in Japanese. It also provides a space for proposing new projects for climate engagement and policy development in Japan.

The working group is open to any member of AIGCC with a presence in the Japanese market. Japanese AIGCC members are encouraged to join and participate in the discussion.

Our Main Activities

Global Initiatives

We provide guidance for applying global initiatives and frameworks within Japanese markets, including the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (NZAM), and Investor Climate Action Plans (ICAPs).

Stewardship & Corporate Engagement

This working group provides a forum for investors to align on best practice in corporate engagement and stewardship, which is particularly important for Japanese members of AIGCC: 23 of the 49 Asian investor signatories to Climate Action 100+ are headquartered in Japan, as are two of the seven focus companies for the Asian Utilities Engagement Program.

Policy Engagement

Policy engagement is one of AIGCC’s key activities in Japan. In the past AIGCC has organized several roundtables and high-level ministerial engagement with policymakers and regulators. This working group also provides AIGCC members to discuss policy development topics in Japan, including sustainable finance and energy transition.

Investor Climate Action Plans and The Expectations Ladder

July 2023

This provides investors with clear expectations for issuing and implementing comprehensive climate action plans, including steps investors can take to support the goal of a net-zero emissions economy by 2050 or sooner.

The framework aims to help investors navigate existing expectations and initiatives on climate change. It is inclusive and unique in that it sets out expectations for investors wherever they may be on their climate journey.

It summarizes the key climate actions investors can take right now in the four interlocking areas of the Investor Agenda: investment, corporate engagement, policy advocacy, and investor disclosure. Governance is a cross-cutting theme across all four areas.

二酸化炭素回収・貯留(CCS)の大規模な導入は、排出量ギャップを埋める手段として、引き続き主要な脱炭素化経路の鍵となる前提となっており、その結果、現在の能力よりも桁違いの CCS 能力が必要になると予測されている。
