Understanding and addressing the ecosystem impacts and just transition challenges of the critical minerals value chain
Overview
Critical minerals are essential to the clean energy transition, forming the backbone of technologies like EV batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and storage systems. As climate goals strengthen and investment in low-carbon infrastructure grows, demand for these minerals will rise—along with the risk of supply disruptions due to their geographic concentration.
Investors and financial institutions have a key role to play by using active ownership and engagement to push for stronger ESG practices, transparency, and responsible sourcing. Aligning mineral supply chains with sustainability is both a strategic necessity and a moral imperative for a resilient and secure energy transition.
Through this first masterclass series on critical minerals, AIGCC aims to equip members with a foundational understanding of their role in the energy transition. The interactive session will explore environmental impacts, just transition considerations, and provide a platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative discussion on global and regional challenges.
